1. Brainstorming in group doesn't really work
According to B. Nijstad 2006 study’s results, brainstorming in a group is not exactly a functional and effective activity at all, since it reduces the power of brainstorming. Some people in a group tend to be lazier than others and care more about what others think when brainstorming.
The most effective and realistic way to brainstorm is when each member of the group does it on their own and, then, shares all their ideas with each other, after all members have already developed their ideas individually.
2. Daydreaming lowers motivation
According to psychologist Bertrand Regader, thinking about a time when we succeeded can reduce our motivation.
Many people think that thinking about success inevitably leads us to create the conditions for it to happen, but what actually happens is just the opposite, as it decreases our motivation levels.
Perhaps the trick is to not stop striving to achieve our goals and to keep our feet on the ground, focusing on our present and avoiding daydreaming about the future.
3. It's possible to train multitasking
Even though multitasking can reduce our efficiency, because we must allocate different cognitive resources to different tasks at the same time, when done correctly it can give the desired results. Recent studies have shown that you can actually learn how to multitask in an efficient way.
4. Suppressing thoughts only leads to overthinking
Bertrand Regader says that suppressing undesired thoughts will only lead to thinking about them even more. People who suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder generally resort to this strategy, and it is proven that it has rarely helped them.
Whenever you find yourself suppressing thoughts, try to let them flow. Try to get to the root of what you’re thinking about and face it!
