The IUSD Bachelor of Science degree completion program in Public Health Dental Hygiene provides an opportunity for graduate dental hygienists to develop further expertise in public health methods or dental hygiene education and includes application of practical experience.
It prepares hygienists for leadership roles in education, public health, commercial ventures, professional associations and/or health advocacy. It can enhance career opportunities available to dental hygienists in a variety of areas, including but not limited to: state and county health departments, academia, sales and marketing, educational software development, pharmaceuticals, dental education consulting, dental insurance companies, research, and clinical dental hygiene.

Requirements
Admission Requirements
Prerequisites to the public health dental hygiene program include: § graduation from an accredited U.S. dental hygiene program; § satisfactory completion of the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination; and current licensure as a dental hygienist
Students must complete a minimum of 120 approved credit hours to achieve the BS degree in Public Health Dental Hygiene . Transfer credit hours from the student’s Associate Degree Dental Hygiene Program curriculum and CODA-required pre-requisite coursework can be transferred in to count towards the BS degree credit hour requirement with the approval of the Program Director.Students in this dental hygiene degree-completion program must complete the five courses (20 credits) of the required core curriculum. Students must also complete or have previously completed any required elective courses needed to satisfy the IUPUI General Ed Core Curriculum. These would include the following:
General Education Course Requirements:- Two Arts and Humanities Courses (Choose from approved list below.)- One Cultural Understanding course (Choose from approved list below.)- One Analytical Reasoning course (Choose from List “A”) Recommended: Finite MathematicsOr, a second statistics courseAdditional Electives:If the student requires additional elective coursework beyond these options, those elective courses must be approved by the BS Degree Completion Program Director/Coordinator at IUSD.
