Saint Leo University: An Institution of Excellence for Everyone

Established in 1889, Saint Leo University is a private Roman Catholic liberal arts university located in St. Leo, Florida, and it has a century-long tradition of welcoming students of all faiths and backgrounds.

As the first Roman Catholic college in Florida, Saint Leo is one of the five largest Catholic colleges in the United States. It enrolls students at the traditional University Campus, at more than 40 education centers and offices, and through its Center for Online Learning.

They are Catholic, but they are for everyone

Saint Leo is committed, and has been committed since its inception, to provide top-quality education to students of all backgrounds, faiths, and cultures.

Their determination to make higher education more accessible to all has made Saint Leo a world leader in redefining the 21st century university. Saint Leo now serves more than 13,000 students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, three U.S. territories, and over 80 countries. Saint Leo is also one of the nation's leading providers of higher education to the U.S. military.

In 1898, before it was legal in Florida for black and white students to attend school together, Saint Leo enrolled a black student—Rudolph Antorcha from Cuba. Today, he and the welcoming Benedictines are honored with a sculpture titled A Spirit of Belonging, which was dedicated at University Campus in 2013.

With a student to faculty ratio of 14:1, leading-edge learning technology, engaging classes focused on student success and one-on-one faculty support, they prepare students for careers in high demand fields.

Saint Leo was one of the first American universities to provide distance learning opportunities to students, beginning with educating military men and women in 1973 during the Vietnam era at the height of the anti-war movement. Saint Leo University offers more than 40 associate, baccalaureate, and master's degrees, and certificate programs and inaugurated its first doctoral program in 2013.
