The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) is a four-year university located in Crookston, Minnesota. It is one of five campuses in the University of Minnesota system and as of fall 2016 has 1,821 undergraduate students.

Students annually come from 29 countries and 46 states. 
Located on the northern edge of Crookston, Minnesota, off U.S. Highway 2, the 108-acre (44 ha) campus (237-acre (96 ha) including research plots of the Northwest Research and Outreach Center) is situated in the Red River Valley, the center of a large agricultural region.

The region is the transition point from the forested areas of the east to the great plains of the Dakotas.
The University of Minnesota Crookston uses the marketing slogan "Small Campus. Big Degree," meant to highlight the small-campus environment and the University of Minnesota system degree that the university offers.

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) is a public, baccalaureate, coeducational institution and one of five statewide campuses of the University of Minnesota System.


As a four-year, public university with an enrollment of more than 1,800 students (approximately 900 on campus and 900 online), UMC proudly carries on a tradition of a century of educational service to Northwestern Minnesota. Since its establishment as an institution of higher learning in 1966 and its transition to offering baccalaureate degree programs in 1993, UMC has been a small campus offering big University of Minnesota degrees. UMC equips all students and faculty with laptop computers; provides individual attention and mentorship; and offers an active, hands-on approach to teaching and learning that puts students ahead of the competition.
